The replacement mod, GG, already has a massive map for all things gathering (ore, wood, herbs, fish) with many options that are not available with AC.

I am currently building a 3D artifact map which will take a lot of time. I am looking for people to assist with mapping in realtime. ie: literally forming a group and farming for a period of time in the same zone.

The reason for this is I use an internal addon to map artifacts. This allows me to sort them (twisted / normal) and to also add location comments to each node.

This means, in the future, when GG leads you to a node you will be given a hint. It might say "inside the base of tree" leading you to look for a specific location and finding more artifacts you would have missed.

Alone it will take me at least 5 long nights to make a decent zone map. A decent map is defined as a zone where I can farm 100 artifacts and not find a new node.

Please let me know if you are interested in helping with this task. GG artifact alphas will be emailed to anyone who helps for "early access", testing and feedback.

The map maker works great if you continue tracking artifacts in one zone.

Problem is, it needs to sort by zone, type etc and disable the undesired nodes. Which it currently cannot do.

If you were to map every zone without this, there would be some massive overhead - one zone eats up 1% cpu as is. (Which i will hopefully improve)

I will leave the freemarch map in. That will give a base example that all players can access. Obviously, Defiants more than Guardians... but that is what you get for being pretty :P

I figure if I take the map out it makes the update negative, and I don't want people avoiding updates because of it.

I will not be adding new maps for artifacts. It takes a very long time to map a zone completely. The 130+ scarwood map has made my eyes bleed more than once. The 180+ freemarch map was my testing ground - so that was new and fun.

Mapping is much better now, so it shouldn't be hard for people to pick it up and go. I expect file size issues with using savedvar for the maps and obviously crashing will cause data loss. But we'll cross that bridge when it comes.

Basically, its finals week. One down... when the rest are complete I will have time to code.

New addon

A somewhat related addon is in the works read here:

http://www.riftui.com/forums/showthread.php?t=256

It is the other side of the market - buying artifacts cheap.

Let me know what you think on that post - there is a poll as well.

Do you think I could use your addon for this task by sending it the coords of those npcs?

On another note, I agree about the economy being dead. In my shard, auction volume has dropped by a half in the last month, more than half of the auctions expire without being sold and each day there are dozens of auctions selling below the vendor price.

On the other hand, most players seem to be rich, and when crafting it isn't too hard to get the materials you need, so who cares about the market?
Ya obviously only sellers care about the market, but if you "need plat" then you are likely also a buyer in the buyers market - so plat shouldn't be a problem etc

As far as using the tracking for quests - its important to note that a map maker has been made and will be coming with 2.0

This addition will allow users to make maps for anything - node runs, herbs, artifacts, rare spawns, quests etc. without needing to edit files etc. just click a button in game to map the spot.

The work would then be deciding when to track the chained and level required quests.

If you wish to build a standalone addon you can. I would only ask that you give proper credits and link to the original on RiftUI (I no longer use curse)

You could edit the gravity function in a clever way to make quests complete in a more rewarding order.

That is: value the quests by some function of exp gain and other rewards. Then the gravity will pull toward the most rewarding, nearest quests. (long distance reduces the pull by default)

You could hardcode bonus value to chains etc to get them done early.

It's awful hard to have any economy when nobody is buying or selling.

And I know the feeling of needing something and there is zero of it for sale on the AH....or it's sky high priced. So then I have to go farm it myself.
I just can't stomach paying 2p per exotic hide for example.

I do agree with a lot of what you pointed out.
Resolving the problems is problematic.

Game economies really don't have much of a chance to function well.
In real life economies there are tangible consequences for being stupid.
In game economies there are no tangible consequences for stupidity thus many people just do whatever they want and throw caution and thinking out the window.
If it breaks who cares right?
That seems to be the general thought process.
Agreed.

We should jointly write a book about the two sides of MMO markets and sell it :P

First 100 copies gets the scarwood artifact map i made tonight lawls

But I know "negative" market affect depends upon individual points of view.
It goes both ways for sure. On wolfsbane most crafting mats are regularly sold at or below vendor value.

Not only is this amazingly stupid as the AH defaults the value to vendor bid... yet some guy thought to himself "That seems too high" and modified it

As a result i buy and vendor these mats off the AH, and i also end up vendoring mine if i have no use for them. Crafting is already bad as it is IMO.

Point being low prices dont add to the game either. When everyone gives up farming the AH suffers and unlike a real economy there isnt always someone waiting to take advantage. Because as you put it, the power goes off and none of it matters.

I have had many cases where i needed mats i could not farm myself and the AH was empty for extended periods of time.

I stack plat, theres no secret there... but i value my time and therefore i tip well and pay for mats i dont have to farm (usually do my own farming)

Now will there ever be a case where i will pay more than 10g for an artifact - never. But if its worth 30p to someone to get a mount, finish a set etc... im happy to make the sale - no second thoughts.

To each their own - plat isnt very useful in all honesty. I wasted 250p on my alts costume and /shrug what else would i do with it? besides invest in the crumbling AH.

You would be amazed at how many people post large amounts of items and are actually losing money against just vendoring it when you consider AH fees - that is not a healthy economy either. Buyers market is a pleasant leveling experience.

I see both sides, but i dont think plat is hard to come by (and not very useful) so i probably undervalue it compared to many other players.

But I know "negative" market affect depends upon individual points of view.

I'm not sure what your stance is, but as far as I am concerned the market is ruined when there are artifacts posted with buy outs over 8 to 10 plat.
So the harder it is for the plat hoarders and farmers to find the artifacts the better as far as I am concerned.
If they want to gouge people with super high prices on the AH then they can do the work to get the node information themselves.

But, there is another side to this coin.
If everyone has the nodes info then anyone can easily go find the artifacts for themselves.
But the farmers will consider this a negative...ROFL.

I'm 100,000% for low prices for stuff.
Not only because I am a cheap SOB.....
But game play is NOT enhanced by high AH prices.
So many people want to get "rich" quick...
In an online game though?
That's craziness. The power goes off and they have nothing.
When items have high prices in the AH it brings out the worst in people.
I have seen way too much rudeness in the game by people trying to get a node before someone else at all costs for something that MIGHT contain a high dollar item on the market.

But I digress....sorry.

Back on topic...I like your ideas.

Thanks for the comments. I've tested the real time marker and it is working with some needed tweaks. (empty map issues)

The plan is to add toggle icons on the mini map of what you want to farm with an additional frame (replacing the coords as those are no longer needed) that displays a note of why you should be there

Like: artifact under chair, rare mob spawn, best sunset EVAR!

whatever you might need to record. Also this takes the triggers out of chat, because i hate using chat for anything.

Most likely getting away from the prefab maps due to the negative effect it has on the markets.
