Cursor
Version: v1.1.11
by: starlon [More]
This addon simply displays a trail behind your mouse cursor.

Type '/cursor config' to open options dialog.

You can modify the size of each trailing segment, the trail's length, and the background color. You can select from two groups of textures: The first four in the config dialog are transparent colored circles. There's a transparent white texture. And the rest of the textures are the Original 4.
v1.1.9:
Patch a few performance errors.

v1.1.8:
Bump versions and update against a deprecated event hook.

v1.1.7:
Bug fix.

v1.1.6:
Add some new options. Type '/cursor config' to open the dialog.
Added some new texture files. Your selections will be reset.
You can configure the background color for the trail's segments. See options menu.

v1.1.2:
- Bug fix. Should no longer consume CPU time in excess.

v1.1:
- First release.
- Switch to using the new mouse movement event.
- Update

v1.0.12b:
- Provide three new commands for enabling and disabling the cursor trail: enable, disable, and toggle.

v1.0.9b:
- Bug fix with StarTip<->Cursor compatibility.
- Minor bug fix.

v1.0.8b:
- Bug fix.
- Provide a fade out effect when the cursor stops moving.

v1.0.7b:
- Bug fix. Turns out the Update event fires before player is Available.

v1.0.6b:
- Bug fix where the trail wouldn't get cleaned up when hiding.

v1.0.5b:
- Bug fix where 'update' table was getting inserted into the event table over and over. Now it'll be removed when stopping the cursor like it's meant to be.
- Set layer per trail point so that the trail cascades properly.
- Make the trail points a little smaller in radius.

v1.0.4b:
- Add Dongle embed
- * Provide options to change the trail's color. * Add /cursor slash command. You can open the config dialog or reset the saved variables to their defaults.
- Created better images that don't look like cropped circles fitting a box. They're real circles now.
- Remove old texture file and replace it with 4 new ones, each of different color: blue, green, purple, red.
- Cache size parameter.
- Make the trail a little longer to help with visibility.
- * Make some modifications to the texture image so hopefully it will be more visible. * Cleanup stray code.
- Remove stray code.

v1.0.3b:
- Remove stray variable.
- Make points circular instead of square.
- Make the trail slightly longer.
- Give the trail a fade-out effect.
- Don't update when the mouse isn't moving.
- Bug fix.

v1.0.2b:
- Make it work for live shards. Will return to using movement event when PTS version is released.
- Shorten the delay between stopping the mouse and hiding the trail.

v1.0.1b:
- Initial commit.

Cheers for the update, hadn't noticed any issues at all, just an addon that aside from using all the time I'd just forgotten about as it's always there in my face.

Many thanks for making it in the first place.

I've been meaning to tell you this, but I have not remembered until now.

Every time I reload the UI or login, during the time this addon loads, I get this error:

It happens every single time. The functionality and config all work fine, but this error occurs every single time.

Should be fine now. I get about 9fps normally though, so let me know if it's still a problem. Thanks for letting me know.

Thanks. That did the trick.

Not sure what the problem is - refresh maybe?

The error seems to be:
"attempt to index field 'db' (a nil value)"
At some point in recent history I added some checks to prevent this. I never saw it because I merely did a UI reload while writing and debugging Cursor. If you log-in fresh the error would appear. I haven't seen it in a while though. Strange that you're still seeing it. I'll have v1.0.11b released tomorrow, which may fix it.

This actually has to do with the core game's function that happens when you hold down the right click, not any addon.
When you right click, it causes your cursor to disappear, and saves the position of your cursor. It then invisibly moves your mouse around - having it reset back to the saved position if you go outside of the game window frame(if you are playing in windowed mode), and otherwise you are just moving your mouse around normally - you just can't see it. Obviously, when you move your mouse around, the camera moves as well. When you release right click, and stop moving the camera, your cursor goes back to the original saved position, and then becomes visible to you again.

Do you think there would be an option in the future to change the cursor to display something else entirely in its place? I kinda doubt Trion will allow it, but it would be nice. I am not a fan of trails, however the cursor gets lost in all the animation going on at times (also triple monitors don't help) so I can see the need of this addon. I think it would be better if I could put a brightly colored or custom cursor in its place though.

The CPU usage is now 0.1-0.5%, and 0% if the cursor isn't moving. Thanks a lot!
