Quest Finder  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Version: 0.2.1
by: Snarty [More]
This is a simple little addon for finding missing quests in your current zone.

Commands:
  • /qfhelp
    List available commands in game.
  • /qfind
List missing quest(s) for your current location, and which quests you currently have in your log.
  • /qfind full
Same as above, except a Quest Summary will appear below each quest, with co-ordinates for the first objective (if available).
  • /qfsetting
Change various settings in-game including chat tab use and silent mode. Type /qfhelp in game for a full list.

Notes
This will currently only list non-repeatable quests, as usually repeatable quests do not count towards Zone achievements. However, once a GUI is in place I do intend to provide full listings for all quests in any given area (including dailies), list quest givers and turn ins (with locations) and also link quest chains in order. There will possibly be the option to see full details of missing quests too.

Are there any plans/timeframe for this to be updated with 3.0 zones/quests?

This seems like a great addon, I just got it today. However, is there any way to filter out carnage quests? I want to go back and find any quests that I may have missed along the way, but I couldn't care less about the old Carnage ones.

Things I'd like to see:

2) Start and End quest coordinates, possibly a compass arrow pointing to nearby quest points.

Keep up the good work!
There are definitely plans for a full featured UI. There's a few things I need to expand on within my personal library collection before that's possible. Not a major undertaking but it will require some time.

As for the Guardian/Defiant issues that's something I'm trying to work on based on the data from Trion. Not all individual quests are marked with a faction tag unfortunately. But I'm working on expanding it to link to start NPC and Quest chains and hope something there defines the correct faction. Not an easy thing unfortunately, but I'm working on it.

Start/End coordinates will actually be possible once the above is complete. The arrow will be further down the road though, as I've not created my animation library yet. But it hasn't been marked as "never happening".

Also to note. We have no control over the Map or Mini-Map within the addon API yet, so anything fancy like placing way-points is going to depend on that. I'd hate to work on a new map system and then have the API enable a Map/Mini-Map right after I've finished.

That would normally suggest you've not installed the Addon correctly. Ensure Quest Finder is in the list of Addons and enabled.

I'm hoping to have something in place soon. Although, there are some issues with Objects instead of NPC quest starters.

Fear not, I'm looking in to it and my external database engine is moving along nicely. I'm currently hooking Lua in to a C++ engine which will allow me to manipulate the supplied data from Trion better.

If I run in to road blocks with quest starters, I'll look in to a way for the addon to gather data as people quest, and then give them the option to help expand its database with more meaningful start information.

I'm currently working on a comprehensive UI library, which will first be utilized by KBM. What this means, is that Quest Finder will gain a nice UI and some more advanced options sharing the same library. Note: since it is a library it will not require KBM, it'll just mean if you have both installed, they share resources for less impact on Rift.

With the above in mind, Quest Finder will expand to replace and/or add to the Rift quest tracker at the side of the screen. You'll also have the ability to blacklist quests you know are being reported incorrectly for your character.

I'll post more once I start development, but first thing you'll see is a new options menu.

quest bug

I think this is a great addon, however, while questing in Ashora I show 1 quest missing to complete all quest. What is showing is "Survival in Isolation" this is not a quest but rather an event timer and it should be deleted from the list.

only issue for me was that i could see guardian quests as a defiant in my lsit in cape jule (also the IA quest which i would consider a "repeatable" quest unless it actually counts toward the achievement for that area)

Future plans include an extended quest tracker (which can mimic the in game one) and/or an extender of the in-game quest tracker which will give you various options for placing a missing quest list one the screen.

I'm currently taking a break from playing Rift and not sure if I'll continue progression. However, I am tempted to purely develop all manner of Addons for Rift. The current grind is quite depressing, and is akin to walking down a very long dark tunnel.

It shows Dacia's Departure, Ancient Technology, Empyrean Invention, and The Synthetic Soul.

All 4 of those are started by, involve, and/or are turned into well-known Defiant NPCs.

Like I said, I don't know how, or if any, faction filtering is being done, or if there's a way to fix it, but in case there is, I wanted to post these.

Thanks for your time, and thanks for making this addon.
Thanks for the feedback. Currently the filtering is done via the <Faction> tag in the Quest.xml supplied by Trion each [insert random time-frame here]. And, unfortunately this xml file and the quests listed seem far from consistent.

However, I am looking in to linking quest givers/turn in NPCs with the quests, this in turn may offer another layer of parsing. But again, this will depend on the consistency of unit data in the NPCs.xml. Hopefully those units do have a <Faction> tag.

Last resort will be hard-coding certain quests to be flagged. Although, once I've added the GUI element, I'm thinking of giving the player an option to Black-List quests you know to be for the opposite faction, or appear for only X crafting/gathering professions.

Either way, I'll eventually have some way for them to be correctly aligned.

Please also note that 0.0.7 is due soon. This will include a new "/qfind full" search option. This will output the quest summary for each missing quest and map co-ordinates if available for the first objective (note, not the Quest giver just yet).
