Good start, needs a bit of work...
While the addon itself is beautiful compared to the obtrusive standard player portraits with bars, it does lack quite a bit...
Things needed:
Secondly just fix the chat log errors as it will never catch on with errors. Great work so far, once updated I can definitely see myself using it. -Vashe

Okay - I'm back from my weekend way :P I'll start getting through some of your suggestions tonight (hopefully).

Note: Just saw an addon "target casting bar" so it's definitely possible! I'll have a look to see how they did it and look at providing the option for the frames, in the mean time you could use that ;-) @Ernesto out of the box lua doesn't actually have classes sadly. The code up on here is pretty messy, but I have been cleaning it up for easier maintenance / extension. I've done some research and I think it's pretty easy to create a rudimentary class with some simple inheritance using tables (which are lua's only composite datatype) - so I am planning on converting the code over to this format. @weasoug planar charges / soul vitality are all nice and easy ones to put in, the game doesn't seem to expose if something is "elite" at the moment though (that I can find) which is odd.

This has potential for sure. I love Taldreans mockup suggestion with the charge counter.
I was looking at the code a little bit and I got slightly confused. Not that I am a LUA expert, but wouldn't it be possible to take a more object oriented approach for easier being able to maintain it, and to add textures and the likes later? (I understand minimalistic, but noone has ever gotten hurt by a tiny texture instead of flat color!) Anyhow, what I was thinking, or actually asking, since I am a LUA newbie: Would it work to write the code something like this: PlayerFrame class HealthBar class PowerBar class (Base) RoguePowerBar class (attach to base class) Then when all the classes, parts of the UI are arranged, we create another file where we deal with the layout and things So, in the layout file we could basically call: load config file with height/width/colors create PlayerFrame attach HealthBar to PlayerFrame Attach PowerBar to PlayerFrame(config.height, config.width, config.color) etc etc. Would writing LUA be possible to do like I suggested above? Or just not possible? |

Spell casting alert is needed on the target box. Found this out the hard way when I didn't know when the dom was casting at me to interrupt.

Also, an Icon for Elite and Boss etc. would be good too.

Few things I need before I can use it in a raid and have perfect viability:
Thats all I can think of now outside being able to resize some of the windows.

Thanks for the great suggestions guys!
I really like the idea of short term buffs / debuffs so I'll add them as an option soon. @Taldren: Yeah I agree 100% regarding the pet / tot frame size, my plan was that eventually they'd default to a smaller health only display. And.. removing the name from the bottom of the UnitFrames is something I've been meaning to do for the exact reason you have posted - so users can have buffs below debuffs above. @Draegan: Me too RE: the DK and I like the combo box idea - it shouldn't be very hard to implement, so I'll make it an option. In the mean time, I hope it's functional enough to last a weekend! I finished my thesis last night (at some ungodly hour) and will be celebrating heavily this weekend - so I probably won't be pushing up many updates until Monday/Tuesday next week. |

Ok, since we are allowed PICTURES!! I have a better way to show my suggestions ...
Basically, to make this a true minimal ui, you really don't need to know your own name, class, and level. You should already know this stuff. So I removed that from the player frame. I showed the short duration buffs below the player frame, but they could also reside above the debuffs. I would personally prefer below as I usually have these frames in the middle of my screen near my character. The target frame should show your debuffs if it is an enemy target ... if it is a friendly target it should show your buffs on the target. This means you could get rid of /muidps and /muihealing and instead do a /muitargetbuffs if you want to show removable debuffs on a friendly target or purgable buffs on an enemy target. The target of target doesn't need to be that large or detailed as the target frame. Just a health bar, name, and buffs (same setup as target frame). |

That being said I'd love to just see a large solid font number to the left of the UI frame. Rough mock up here. I'd love to see the option of that "combo box" be moveable on it's own and scalable as well. Not sure if that's possible though. Edit: Just noticed the buff/debuff portion of the display (I originally thought it was part of another mod). I love it, especially for us rogues needing to keep Impale up etc. It's exactly how I had set up my buff/debuffs for my DK in WOTLK. The debuffs look good, though I would like to see those buffs be customizable. Like being able to only see the 60s buffs like Annihilate and Head Shot. The rest of the buffs/debuffs can be tossed into a seperate buff bar mod. I don't need to see poisons on my player frame. Editx2: I want a mod essentially to track 60s or less buffs above my target frame or at least moveable to where I want them. Then I want a mod to track my current debuffs on the target like impale and fiery spike. and then have that be moveable and scalable. Good start.

Good evolution ... nice work.
Have you looked into flash and fade bar movement for health? When you take a hit your bar instantly drops to the new health point and does a flash pulse, but there is a low alpha bar of your original health value below your current health that fades out. At low health they usually loop the red flash pulse. It really helps in PvP ... especially when you start to see flashes of Orange/Red. I would also like to suggest that you segment the rogue mechanic bar into 5 pieces (-----) rather then (_____) to more clearly see how many points you have. Another suggestion is to add to the player frame short duration self buffs (t<15 or 30 seconds) and have them either go below the player frame or above the debuffs.
