Welcome every one to riftui!

Cairenn 06-06-11 02:24 PM

Welcome everyone! We are very excited to be able to open the doors on RiftUI! :)

I'll go ahead and start. Many of you will know me from our other sites, but for the rest of you:

Hi, my name is Cairenn. I am one of the founders and admins on our group of sites. We (myself & Dolby) have been running interface sites for the MMORPG community since 2002. We currently have 6 sites with this being our 7th, covering 8 games. You can find links to our other sites in the footer at the bottom of the page.

Before anyone asks - yes I am an honest-to-goodness female. Still somewhat of a rarity in the MMORPG world I know, but there are a few of us around. I've been a fan of Interface "modding" ever since my introduction to it with EverQuest and my enjoyment of the communities that we create for those of like interests has only continued to grow over the years that I've been involved with it. I am the 'face' of the site, taking care of all of the front end requirements on a site like this; taking care of you guys (our authors and users), being the liaison between our sites and the respective game companies, etc.

So, enough about me. Allow me to take this moment to give you a brief introduction to the rest of the staff and volunteers. Dolby is the other founder and administrator on the site. He's the one that takes care of all of the coding and such needed to keep the site running smoothly. I'd also like to introduce you to Nobgul and Seebs. They are the first two volunteer moderators for the site. Try not to be too mean to them. ;)

Everyone, please do feel free to say "hi" and introduce yourselves.

Ketho 06-06-11 04:43 PM

Hi, I wrote only a few WoW addons over on WoWI

I was in the Rift Beta for a while, but I'm excited to meet the RiftUI community :)

lunacat 06-06-11 05:06 PM

Hi everyone,
I've been playing Rift since beta and I'm really enjoying it. This is my first actual mmo playing by my self (without my folks) and I'm keen to try everything the game has to offer. My folks got me into wow and lotro before Rift so i know a little about addons. I would like to try and learn how to develop addons so I'm going to have lots of questions for sure :)
Cairenn, I'm also an honest-to-goodness female, just not an adult one yet :D
Lunacat.

Drakah 06-06-11 05:17 PM

Greetings!

Maybe with the launch with the RiftUI website, I might go buy the game...(ponder). :) Hard to resist modding...

Arc 06-06-11 05:28 PM

Hi! I'm very excited to be here and can't wait to see what the future holds in store for this community! I have only a little experience in software development, but I'm going to dive right into Rift addon development and not come up for air until I'm satisfied! :p

Thanks a bunch to Dolby and all the staff!

Kreiri 06-06-11 05:30 PM

Hi.

I've been playing WoW for several years, wrote my own addons, maintained briefly addon written by another. I use several nicknames; my WoW one is (was) "Zhiva".

Cairenn, I'm a woman too. On "rarity" of female MMO players: it's estimated that about 40% of WoW subscribers are women.

TMc51 06-06-11 05:42 PM

HERRO!

Glad to see another MMO adding interface customization. I'll definitely give Rift a try now, since my main gripe with the game during beta was lack of customization.

Depending on how many people game together in this community, I might take a break from WoW and join in sometime, though I do plan to attempt porting some stuff over either way. :)

I didn't say female gamers are rare. There are lots of us, for which I'm very happy! Girl power! :D Highly visible women working in the MMORPG industry, however, are much more rare. That group is growing too, though, as time goes by. ;)

Ailae 06-06-11 06:04 PM

Hey folks!

I've dabbled a little with addons in WoW (and can be found at WoWI under the same username), although nothing major.

I'm pretty stoked about addons coming for Rift so I can sort out a few quality of life issues I have with the default interface. :)

Nobgul 06-06-11 06:24 PM

Ello all!

I look forward to seeing all the cool addon's everyone comes up with.

Plasma 06-06-11 06:37 PM

woot riftui is finally up been checking over the last thu days.
cant wait to see this site populated with addons

Myrroddin 06-06-11 09:07 PM

Well, I am not a female, regardless of my Rift toon.

On topic: I've played WoW for six years, but I have switched to Rift. In the former, I wrote or contributed to about half a dozen addons, and I am really looking forward to see what the latter's API looks like. If interesting and robust, I just may contribute a few Rift addons.

Over on Curse, I have been a moderator for their forums. You might have seen one of my approaching 5000 posts helping people out.

Unkn 06-06-11 11:43 PM

Hello Everyone!!

I can't wait to see this community get up and running - looking forward to getting to know this crowd.

I'm glad Rift has decided to let us work on some addons and I can't wait to get running on it. I'd cancelled my sub with Rift and gone back to wow - half the fun of wow was my UI :) And in the near future I can do that with Rift YAYAY

Saints 06-07-11 03:50 AM

Im new to this Add-Ons thing so hopefully it will be good :P

manorton 06-07-11 07:25 AM

Yea! Good to see you guys ready to go!

Ill be working on my videos as soon as we have something to work with and review. :)

BTW, I had to re-register. Not sure if the Zam connection is broken or just me.

Anyway! YEA!!!

<3 you guys as always.

I think I got it tied now. Or I messed it up :P But im here.

Cairenn 06-07-11 07:36 AM

Not sure why it wouldn't work for you Manorton. What browser are you using? Any blocking software? Did you try logging in with the email address that you used to register with on the other site(s)?

[Edit] Well, you just went from a regular registered user to a premium user, so I'd say that yes, you got them linked now. :)

Either way, glad to see you here. Glad to see everyone that's here. This is a fantastic start for the community, especially considering how little we actually know of what Trion is going to give us access to. :)

Arianos 06-07-11 09:24 AM

Greetings Everyone! Looking forward to all the enhancements for the UI to come!

Bludwyng 06-07-11 10:00 AM

Looking forward to it

Hi, all. This is Bludwyng from the ZAM Wikibase. Can't wait to see what enhancements y'all come up with! Hopefully a way to set waypoints can be found that will allow use of all those wonderful coordinates we have been entering in the wiki! :)

hylax 06-07-11 10:02 AM

Hi everyone!

I've found out about RIFT when it was in beta 3 in January. Prior to RIFT I have been playing EVE Online for 3 years.
I still have an active EVE Online subscription but when the RIFT add-on API is published I will likely stick with the latter.

RIFT is the first MMO which I followed from almost the beginning. It's great to see the game still going strong and I'm looking forward to start learning add-on and UI development.

mabs 06-07-11 10:13 AM

Hi,
I developed a parser for vanguard sometime ago, and i am currently working on a parser for rift ( http://forums.riftgame.com/showthrea...adu-log-parser ).
I would like to create an addon that look like the hud feature of my rift parser:
to show info gathered from the parser and maybe even the buff tracking feature.

my first plan is that the addon would be only a view of my parser data (to not code twice a parsing engine with different language...), meaning there would be communication between the addon and the parser, no idea if that would be even possible, and as i never had the opportunity to work on addons i have no clue what to expect.

I'm been playing Rift since the second to last public beta and still enjoying it :p

Kira420 06-08-11 06:01 AM

I play rift on the spitescar server, i've never written an addon and probably never will. I do however plan to use some and am anxious to see what you people come up with !

Sasenna 06-08-11 02:07 PM

Hi,

I am Sas, I have spent years playing WoW ( 6 years ). When Rift came out, several of my real life friends switched to it. Naturally I switched as well. From the beginning the biggest turn off for me was the lack of AddOns.

AddOns:
In WoW I have never written my own code, however I have spent hundreds of hours modifying others code. I am very picky when it comes to my UI. My signature shows the AddOn UI I kept going the longest.

Programming Knowledge:
I have 3 years of C++ college credit. LUA to me works alot like C++, some things were easy to figure others not so much.

Hopefully, with Rift I will be able to learn even more about LUA, and maybe even begin to write my own AddOns vs just modifying.

~Sas

Callinon 06-08-11 05:32 PM

I had some issues getting my Zam premium recognized too, I realized later that I was just doing it bass-ackwards, and got it worked out :D

Aviara 06-10-11 06:25 AM

im female gamer, mom of 3 and cant wait to see mods for Rift!

Nelvean 06-10-11 07:57 PM

Hello everyone, thanks for site
i wish you good luck all who works on codes and all other things..

Happy gaming...

PS : please dont forget Party's target and Raid's target

icebjorn 06-11-11 09:22 AM

Hello all. I played rift during the closed beta and then took a break and started playing the game about an month after it came out. Im currently playing a rogue and as I wrote in another post im and graphic design fan boy looking to get involved in add on development. Nice to meet 'cha :)

Neglected 06-11-11 02:09 PM

Ohai der!
My name is Neglected, I'm playing a Kelari Rogue on the Whitefall PvP server. I used to work in WoW emulation under the same alias, and now I've moved over to Rift Interface Customization. See you all around on IRC, etc :)

Raesoth 06-11-11 07:08 PM

Nice to be home again. Maybe this time I can actually sit down and figure out this LUA stuff and get an addon going. :)

But I'm always willing to test stuff out and let those know whats works and what doesn't. Maybe a nice bag mod or well a dashpanel would be wonderful .. wow's nUI or something similar.

Lets see these addons :)

phoenik 06-15-11 03:44 AM

Phoenik of Seastone[US]. Played FFXI for 7 years, quit just this past year (game was changing). Friend that got into one of the earliest Betas for Rift said I should try the game. Got addicted to the flow fairly quickly.

I've never worked with LUA before so this will be my first experience with it :). I'm looking forward to breaking things and finding bugs.

RecastBox is my first experiment with LUA and the idea stems from a similar 3rd party application for FFXI. Probably not the most original idea, but it's a nice learning experience :P.

Yorgl 06-16-11 03:44 AM

Bonjour à tous !

Well, Yorgl/Iorghl here. Newb tank on a French-RP server.
Can't wait to have addons to slightly improve my UI. I've worked on some addons in WoW, but so far I can only code very very simple ones. I still consider give it a try in Rift if necessary !

Hello! Iridar here.

Introduced to Addons in WoW, but never really did any programming as the community was established and I was (almost) always able to find what I needed.

Wrote a few little Lua scripts in WAR just to fool around, never published anything. Looking forward to trying my hand at some real stuff for Rift.

bcgamer 06-16-11 08:18 PM

Nice site design, I play RIFT for 3 months, love it so far, and I am also opening a mmo blog for this game.

bcgamer 06-16-11 08:20 PM

hi, I am tony

Othgar 06-22-11 09:38 PM

Oi!

Othgar here just like I am everywhere else. Still playing around with LUA trying to get enough time to actually do more than compile addons and tweak Ouf Layouts. Looking forward to diving in to the Rift UI thing from the beginning.

ironhead 06-23-11 03:34 PM

Hi

I'm a recent college grad with a back ground in object oriented programming (primarily Java programming) trying to learn LUA and the Rift AddOn API in general so that I can build my own add ons.

ravensghost 07-01-11 09:57 PM

Hi Ravens here, played WoW and got hooked on the add-ons for it, hoping this time I can add to the community and not just sponge of it.

Sunspots 07-02-11 07:03 AM

Hi!
I'm usually Sunspots but there is apparently another Sunspots in the rift community so I sense there might be some confusion.
I'm not "Sunspots" on the official forums but I'm Sunspots here and on Curse.

Now that we've gotten that out of the way - I recently started playing rift and the addons addition was definitely a selling point for me (I would've gotten it anyway I think, but maybe not as eagerly)
I have been a bit of an addon junkie when I've played WoW and WAR (and some RoM and LOTRO), some weeks spending more time on simply customising the addons than actually playing the thing.

I have released one little thing previously, which was basically just a single-function mod for WAR.

Right now, though, I'm making two different mods for RIFT; some unit bars and a library(more on that later).
I don't know how they will turn out but, since I haven't really done much of this before.

Wish me luck!

drecan 07-10-11 07:23 PM

Hi my name is Tim AKA Drecan (most of my MMO toons are named Drecan).

I honestly haven't even played Rift yet. And before anyone askes yes I've been living under a rock for the past 6 months but that rock was made of lots of ocean and a big metal aircraft carrier -.-.

I'm interested in trying to get on the Addon "band wagon" for Rift. I did a couple of addons for WoW (played for 5 years) nothing worth mentioning and most of the time it was for my own use or use of a friend.

I mainly used addons just to make my UI mine so to speak. I run a 23" monitor @ 1920x1080 and will force everything down to the bottom of my screen so I have a huge landscape for my viewing pleasure. Depending on the character and what I would be doing no hot bars would be on shown on my screen.

As soon as I get off this hunk of metal (which will be soon finally) I do play on play Rift (already bougth the collectors edition while it was on sale for digital download).

Since I'll be new to the game (will be playing Defiant more then likely) I am also going to be looking for a shard to call home (hint hint).

Well this was just supposed to be a short and sweet about me. Looking forward to using these forums and hopefully gaining some insight into Rift addons and maybe helping people out.

Cairenn 07-15-11 07:42 PM

Welcome to the site daisydu72. Hopefully you'll get some additional enjoyment of the game thanks to the work of the authors here that will be creating addons for the game. :)

Levva 07-26-11 11:02 AM

Hi I'm Levva and I'm an Addon Developer. See first step to recovery is admitting the truth.

I'm probably best known for the WoW addon for Enhancement Shaman ShockAndAwe. I'm also the author of the Rawr addon for WoW, Rawr.Enhance, a project co-ordinator for EnhSim and one of the Super Moderators at MMO-Champion.com.

I've been playing Rift since beta but paused when my mates from WoW stubbornly didn't join me. Now that addons are on the go with an API available (very very minimalist at present) I'll have a bash at writing a Rift addon. Plus my mates are starting to say that patch 4.2 for WoW is so poor that they are already fed up with little to do and its been out for less than a month. So who knows they might join me after all.

My first project is already started on Curse and I'm gradually picking apart the API & example coding to see how it all works although I'm not fully sure the API supports what I need yet.

Anyway I'm very pleased to have found a dedicated resource for Rift Addon Developers and hope to discuss many things here over the comming months.

Cairenn 07-26-11 01:23 PM

Welcome Levva. Yeah, I know you from your addons on WoWInterface. I hope you will feel free to host your Rift addons here as well. :)

Meph 08-20-11 01:17 AM

Hi, all there ...

I am an somewhat :o older woman from Germany loving MMORPGSs after being seduced by ZELDA  ...

I've been using Cairenn's, Dolby's and Drakah's UIs since 11 years now (or were it 12 already :D), starting with EQ (with my bard "Saph" on Solusek Ro, oh yes, those were the days ) over WOW (with a lot of toons on a lot of servers - my user name "proke" at WOWInterface) a short trip (from BETA to a bit over a year) to AION and now I'm playing RIFT (since prelaunch) too.

Far away from being able to develop my own addons I am a vivid user though - addicted to beauty :p - and therefore I am really curious how RIFT addons will develop.

Cairenn 08-20-11 01:57 AM

*huggles Saph/Proke/Meph*

Welcome to yet another of our sites! Good to see you here too! :)

Cazrin 08-23-11 02:19 PM

Hello I'm Cazrin and a budding add on developer! I don't know LUA yet but as a developer both professionally and in my spare time I will hopefully pick it up in no time while chipping away at the add on API.

Not even level 50 yet but getting close (47 right now) and can see me playing the game for some time and would like to invest some effort in a few add on ideas I have.

Looking forward to seeing what the community here can produce!

Cairenn 08-23-11 02:42 PM

Welcome to the insan ... errr, community ... Cazrin

Mightyprawn 10-03-11 08:07 AM

Hello people! I've as alot of you played WoW for several years, and I just recently switched to Rift, and might get into AddOn development (even though I just barely know LUA :D)

Lildry 10-15-11 12:55 PM

Hello Everyone

I am Lildry, I am currently enrolled at Unveristy of Phoenix getting my BA degree in Information Technology WebDesign/Programing. I already have an associates degree in information technology webdesign. I am really good with HTML and photoshop, I have taken C/C++ class and I did well in it. I will be takeing java classes later this year, unfortantly the school doesn't offer any LUA classes and I need to learn it on my own with the help of some of you.

I am intrested in a few types of application, I would like to work on healing addon, chat addon, and decurse addon. I have already learned to creat slash commands using Lua and now I moveing on to learn to make a simple default window. Next I would like to learn to build a raid frame.

I have been spending alot of time working on Lua application over the past 3 weeks and I found that the API has alot of things that need to be added. The things that we can do with the API is currently very limited. I think that the Rift API is easy to read compared to WoW and when it is completed it will be far better than wow. I hope to work with some of you soon.

Regards,
Lildry

Hey! You no doubt zoomed past my chars a few times with your selos on Solusek Ro back in the day. That was my server as well (Before Bristlebane swallowed it (grumble)). Good to actually see someone else from good ol' SolRo =)

Anyway, I'm a fairly avid developer though I've never publicly released anything. As someone else said, I believe, I like to make the UI and it's functionality "Mine". Who knows, I may yet release one of them sometime. I may have released one for DAoC back in the day. Don't remember if I did or not. That was some of the best fun modding. WoW may have topped it if I had played the game for any length of time, who knows.

So, here's to Rift and the success of all the great authors here!
